Keep a food diary. Set aside a notebook in which you record your daily food intake. This is a great way to help yourself stick to a weight loss plan.

1. Jot down your daily menu. Then you can see what you eat on any given day. This helps you to see any patterns of unhealthy eating that you never considered before You may also like to record the portion size.

2. You can also list the following so that you can have it for future reference.
a. reasons you are eating, apart from hunger ( e.g. depression )
b. the cravings you experience
c. your feelings about your diet

You can also keep a food diary on your computer. Simply open up a word processing program and keep the icon on your desktop.

Remember to update your food diary every day and review it at the end of each week to track your progress.

You may wish to note in your diary when you achieve certain weight loss goals. This will tell you what you’ve been doing is right for you.

If you gain weight, the diary will also help you to find out why you gained…e.g. the food you may have eaten, etc
