Is there a need to lose weight?
Well it depends…… are you fat? Are you overweight? Are you obese? If your answer is yes to any of these questions then you need to lose weight. You should lose weight. Why?
Losing weight is the first step to good health. Overweight and obese people have health risks. They risk getting life-threatening diseases. Scientific studies have confirmed that obesity leads to a host of diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and breathing problems, sleep apnea, gall bladder problems, spinal damage, some cancers and premature death.
Despite such risks, more and more people are becoming obese because they take the wrong type of food with too much fat and sugar-rich food. Have you seen the crowd at fast-food outlets, chomping away their burgers, fried chicken and french fries? Have you seen people gobbling down doughnuts slathered with chocolate and icing downed with sweet carbonated drinks? Are you one of them? I hope not! Or if you are, then you should change your eating habits because your life is at stake.
These days, many people lead a sedentary life style because of the nature of their jobs. The majority sit at their desks working at the computer screens. Long working hours do not give them time for any form of exercise. In time to come, they put on weight around their middle, or abodomen. Men and women get a sagging or bulging tummy with fat concentrated in their abdominal region.
Some may have psychological problems, leading them to seek comfort in food to the extent of bingeing on unhealthy food. Over a period of time, this leads to obesity and weight problems.
Now how can you check if you are overweight or obese and at health risk? The usual way is to find out what your BMI is. What is BMI or Body Mass Index?
The Body Mass Index is used to classify body weight. The higher your BMI (Body Mass Index), the greater your risks of dying earlier.
How do you calculate your BMI?
Weight in Kilogrammes
BMI = ——————————
Height x height (m)
WHO classification | BMI Range | Examples(Weight/height) (BMI) |
Underweight | Less than 18..50 | 45kg/1.60m 17.58 55kg/1.75m 17.96 63kg/1.85m 18.40 |
Normal range | 18.5 – 24.99 | 60kg/1.60m 23.44 70kg/1.75m 22.8 80kg/1.85m 23.37 |
Overweight | Over 25 | 70kg/1.60m 27.34 80kg/1.75m 26.12 100kg/1.85m 29.22 |
Obese | Over 30 | 80kg/1.60m 31.25 100kg/1.75m 32.65 105kg/1.85m 30.68 |
Have you done your calculation? What category are you in? Remember, if you are overweight you must do something to reduce your weight or you will be at health risk which may shorten your life.
Do not wait until you downed by any of those dreaded diseases before taking action. Act now to save your life! Check out
I would do it now, if I were you. Remember, procrastination, in this case will rob you of years of your life.
Cheers!
Peggy
